Ipsos & Barbati Corfu

Ipsos Corfu

The resort of Ipsos is on the east coast about 14km from Corfu town and about 20 minutes by car. The main road north runs the length of the main strip of Ipsos which is about 3.5km long. The blue buses run from here and offer a good, frequent service to and from town however this is the last stop for the blue buses, if you want to travel further North you will need to change here and catch a green bus. There are lots of tavernas, restaurants, shops and bars in Ipsos set along one side of the road, which offer a wide and varied choice for dining and shopping. There are also a few nightclubs in the resort appealing to the younger holiday maker or just the young at heart. On the other side of the road there is a long shingle and stone beach, where you can find companies offering a range of water sports.
The resort is flagged at one end by a marina and a small selection of fresh fish is always available to buy at points along the resort. At the other end of the resort the road climbs steeply upwards and offers fantastic views of the mountains, from here you can reach the road that takes you to the top of the highest peak in Corfu, Mount Pantokrator. The name Ipsos mean Heights, however the resort itself is very flat and long and has a lovely promenade along its entire length making it an ideal place for walking, cycling, running or just a gentle stroll to take in the sights.
Ipsos was known 10-15 years ago as a party resort, full of club 18-30's holidays. It is changing though. It is still a very lively resort - the discos and bars remain. The far side of the beach near the harbour is quieter. In Ipsos you will find romantic couples, parents with teenagers - who prefer the busier bars and clubs on the other end of the beach! The beach stretches along the roadside and gently curves round at the harbour end. Ipsos is set against the dramatic backdrop of the hills of the North East of Corfu on the left and to your right across the sea to Corfu town. The main road runs through the shopping and disco strip, lining the inland side whilst the clear water and clean beach occupy the opposite side. Many couples enjoy Ipsos as it is a resort with plenty of life, but the edges are the quieter parts, such as the harbour end and the village behind the main road.
